Two Apex sportswriters honored

Two Apex High sportswriters have been honored by the North Carolina Scholastic Media Assosiation for outstanding writing during the 2004-2005 school year. Senior Andrew Dunn took first place for large schools in the "Sports Article" competition, and recent-graduate Mitchell Pittman won honorable mention in "Sports Column." Both were reporters for the Apex High School student newspaper Legacy.

Hays scores in all-star game

Apex grad Danielle Hays scored the East's lone goal in a 2-1 loss in the East-West women's soccer all-star game yesterday. The goal came from 25 yards out with 5:43 remaining.

Hays will attend Miami of Ohio next year on a soccer scholarship.

Baker to play in all-star game

Recent Apex graduate and basketball standout Charles Baker has been selected to play in the Southeast Raleigh All-Star game. The game will be played at 1 pm today at Southeast Raleigh High School, and will feature players such as Millbrook's Pierre Evans and SE Raleigh's Matt Coleman. Admission is free.

Baker, a 6' 4'' forward on last year's conference championship team, averaged 12.4 points per game.

Dillard named to all-star team

James Dillard, the recently graduted basketball standout, has been named to the North Carolina High School Coaches Assossiation East-West all-star game. Dillard is the only player from Wake County on the team.

The game will be played on July 18 at the Greensboro Coliseum at 8:30 pm.

Lacrosse team wins state championship

The Apex men's lacrosse team defeated East Chapel Hill last night 7-6 to win the state championship. This win avenged the Cougar's only loss of the season.

Senior Matt Holzworth was named Offensive MVP. Junior Ross Thornton was the Defensive MVP.

Lacrosse plays for championship

The Apex men's lacrosse team will play East Chapel Hill High in the North Carolina state championship game. ECHH is the only team to have beaten the Cougars this year. The game will be at 7 pm at SAS park.

Apex defeated Mt. Tabor High 8-7 in the semifinals. Mt. Tabor eliminated the Cougars last year.
